Frequently Asked Questions
Do you only need to contact an attorney if you have a problem?
Even if it’s just a consultation, you should utilize the services of an attorney before you enter legally binding contracts. An attorney will be able to advise of any potential pitfalls and guide you to make choices to protect yourself from issues if things in the future don’t go the way you initially envisioned. A properly drafted legal document is the best insurance from future legal expenses.
There are so many forms on the internet, why do I need an attorney?
Every state has different laws, and who knows who drafted an internet form. We see internet forms regularly when issues arise, and your legal issue may be compounded by an inadequately drafted legal document. Only an attorney can protect you from future legal costs by drafting your legal documents.
I'm buying a home; do I need an attorney?
The drafting of many of the documents needed to buy or sell a home are defined by the State of North Carolina as the practice of law; meaning they can only be done by an attorney.
What is included in a Will package?
A complete Will package includes four documents: a Will, a Health Care Power of Attorney, a Living Will, and a Power of Attorney (formerly known as a Durable Power of Attorney).
How much is a consultation for my legal matter?
Most consultations are between $150 for most matters and $200 for family law matters.
How do I prepare for my consultation with an attorney?
You will be asked to complete in intake form (which may be completed online) identifying the parties, and the general legal matter. In addition, you should supply the attorney with any relevant contracts or photos to review with the attorney. It is always helpful to have a list of your questions so that the consultation does not end without you having all of your questions answered, and for you to be familiar with our documents so that you may guide the attorney to relevant sections of your document that will assist in answering your questions.
